The Guarantee-Return System (SGR) will be the second largest system in Europe after Germany, 7 billion packages will have to be collected, sorted, counted and recycled nationally. The other countries manage around 1.5-2.5 billion packages,” said Gemma Web, CEO of the Guarantee-Return System administrator at the Waste Management Forum organized by The Diplomat-Bucharest.
The CEO of Returo, Gemma Web, also stated that:
- The RetuRo team currently consists of 25 employees;
- For a good organization of the system, 17 sorting and counting centers are needed, 6 large and 11 smaller ones. The estimated cost for the infrastructure is 80 million euros and will be secured by a bank loan.
- Up to this moment, there are 62,000 companies registered in the system – traders and manufacturers (no. of the estimated 80,000; although the registration deadline was initially February 28, 2023).
- In the next 2 weeks, the contracts will be sent to the producers, and then to the traders.
- All the CEOs of the other Return Guarantee systems were invited to visit Romania in March next year to see how the system works.
- There will be 80,000 return points nationwide. At this moment, a 50-50 split is estimated for automatic collection (through RVM – Reverse Vending Machines) and manual collection.
